For the last six months a small technological achievement takes place in the streets of Trikala. An electric bus without a driver is the first bus to circulate in a European city as part of the European Program City Mobil2(Cities Demonstrating Mobility). The specific program which is funded by the Seventh EU Framework Program for research and technological development, refers to the creation of a pilot platform for automated transport, which will be tested in various settings in Europe. The aim is not to replace bus drivers with computers, but to create new means of public transportation to complement the existing ones.
More specifically as part of the program 6 small futuristic vehicles arrived in the city of Trikala and a special designed route in the center of the city was created. This route is 1.2oo meters long and it has 6 stops. The vehicle moves at a low speed of 20km/hour and you don’t need a ticket to get on the bus.
So what do you think? Shall we go for a futuristic ride? Extra tip: Trikala is considered to be a music city since a lot of well-known composers and singers were born and raised here. As part of the annual music celebration events, each of those six vehicles has a name of a famous musician.
